Unlike traditional firms, Garfield puts you back in control: your AI legal assistant is available 24/7, guiding you in real time — no waiting days for a lawyer to respond.
How it began
Garfield was born out of a simple, everyday problem.
Philip, our co-founder and former City litigator, saw first-hand how daunting the court system can be when he helped his brother-in-law, Andy, a plumber, chase unpaid invoices. For sole traders and small businesses, the process is time-consuming, complex, and often not worth the effort — even when the money owed is essential to their livelihoods.
Recognising the potential of new AI technologies to simplify and democratise legal processes, Philip partnered with Daniel, a former quantum physicist who left his PhD to go all-in on Garfield. Together, they set out to build a legal service that works at the speed of modern business.

Breaking new ground
In 2025, Garfield became the first law firm in history to be authorised and regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) to provide legal services solely through AI. This milestone was more than regulatory recognition. It was validation that AI can responsibly expand access to justice while maintaining professional standards.
